A Baal Sansad (Children’s Parliament) was organised by Himalaya Public School on 24th November at the ATL Lab, based on the theme “Swachchhta (Cleanliness): Basic Rights of the Citizens.” The event aimed to empower students to participate in democratic dialogue and to highlight that a clean, hygienic environment is a fundamental right of every citizen. Objectives of the Session

The primary objective of the Baal Sansad was to nurture active citizenship and civic responsibility among students. For this purpose, students assumed the roles of ‘Ministers’ and ‘Opposition Members’ to:

1. Understand the democratic process and policy development.
2. Discuss current issues related to sanitation and cleanliness.
3. Develop leadership and decision-making skills.
4. Propose practical, sustainable solutions to community concerns.

Highlights and Key Resolutions The Children’s Parliament conducted meaningful discussions linking cleanliness to citizens’ rights and national progress. Major points included:
1. Sanitation and Public Health-
Students emphasised hygiene as a basic right and suggested measures such as improved public toilet facilities, proper waste segregation, and effective waste disposal systems.

2. Environmental Cleanup-
Focused discussions were held on environmental challenges, especially: A. Cleaning of the Yamuna River
B. Addressing Delhi’s air and water pollution
Students proposed actionable steps for environmental restoration and stricter enforcement of pollution-control norms.

3. National Image-
Participants noted that maintaining high standards of cleanliness is essential for enhancing India’s global reputation, attracting tourism, and encouraging investment.

4. Sustainable Development-
The Parliament also addressed the issue of over-construction in mountainous regions, highlighting its link to ecological imbalance and increased vulnerability to natural disasters. Students recommended responsible development practices to ensure long-term sustainability.

Conclusion:
The Baal Sansad successfully transformed students from passive learners into informed and active policy thinkers. The resolutions passed reflect their strong awareness of civic rights and their commitment to creating a cleaner, safer, and more sustainable future. The event was an excellent platform to cultivate leadership, responsibility, and democratic values among young learners.
